In magic, playing cards speak. One illusionist asks a deck to whisper “trust me,” while another wants his cards to express his onstage persona or serve as cover for the workings of an illusion.

Card designers mostly ignored the design needs of magicians until 2007, when online community Ellusionist riffed dark on the traditional Bicycle Rider Backs with its Black Tigers. Justin Kamerer and theory11 released their bold Bicycle Guardians soon after. The revolution was underway; a creative explosion occurring at the intersection of design and magic. A few weeks ago, we rolled out the first change set of what we’ve been calling D2 internally—a rethink of our UI for navigating the site.

We have several areas that we want to attack and improve this year. First up was introducing new menu navigation and advanced filters for gleaning additional shot streams from the amazing corpus of content our members contribute.
