Introducing Finca Filadelfia:
Our coffee importing partner, Andrew Miller from Café Imports, originally cupped coffee from this farmer association in the Huila region of Colombia four years ago. It was the best Colombian coffee he had ever tasted- it had intense passion fruit flavors, bright champagne-like acidity and a rich cocoa body. Then in 2009, it was voted Coffee of the Year at the Specialty Coffee Association Expo. When we had the chance this past winter to secure a microlot from the 7-acre farm Finca Filadelfia, we jumped on the opportunity. With less than 50lbs. available per shop, we are thrilled to offer this remarkable coffee from Colombia to our patrons.
What it tastes like:
This is unlike any Colombian coffee you will ever taste. The fragrance is bountiful and it has a buttery smooth body with a sparkling acidity. Solid fruit and caramel flavors add to the aroma. You’ll experience a lingering finish of tangerine, tea and chocolate. And even if you can’t taste all that stuff- you’ll know it’s the best Colombian you’ve ever tried from first sip.
About the Farm:
In 2001, a small group of farmers from the Huila region in the town of San Agustin in Colombia got together with intentions of improving their farming practices and gaining access to the specialty coffee market. They formed an association called “La Asociacion Los Naranjos de San Augustin”. Today there are over 50 growers with about 150 total hectares in coffee. One of these farms, Finca Filadelfia, is owned by the Rodriquez family. Jose Rodriquez, his wife and two sons work this farm producing some of the world’s finest coffee.
